The oldest and probably the most wide-spread of all home-made non-alcoholic drinks, lemonade is also the easiest to make. Serve over ice with a fresh mint leaf, and add a dash of gin, vodka or white rum [or all three if you really want to party].


Juice of 4 lemons.

6 tblsp caster sugar.

1 litre water.


Put the lemon juice and the sugar in a jug, and add the water, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Place in the fridge to chill and serve. The formula is: juice of 1 lemon to 1 cup [250ml] of water, with 2 tblsp sugar to start, then 1 tblsp sugar per cup of water. The amount of gin you put in is up to you.
